Kumarapuram Thoppur 1

Kumarapuram thoppur is a small village in Kanyakumari district. It is on the way from Suchindram to Rajavoor. This village is famous for the Subramania swamy(Murugan) temple here on a small hillock. Kumaran is another one name of Lord Subramanya.  Puram is usually a village. Thoppur is a place having coconut farms. So the place is called as Kumarapuram Thoppur. We can see full of coconut trees around the area when seeing form the temple.

There is a story behind this temple. Once Lord Indra made many mistakes and Lord Shiva cursed him. Then Indra realized his mistakes and Lord Shiva blessed him at Suchindram. Indra's white horse "Iravadham" or "Uchaichiravam" also wanted to be blessed. Shiva asked the white horse to go to the Kumaran Temple at Bhramashethram in the North East side of Suchindram. The horse told that it doesn't know how to do the poojas. So the lord sent an assistant Sunandhan. Uchaichiravam came to the temple and got blessed. This temple is also called as Vaasipuram.Even now Silvar Horse is the Vahana for Lord Subramania here.

Shashti or kandhasasti or Soora Samharam is the famous festival at this temple. Sooran (Padmasuran) is used to build made up of straw, bamboo and sticks each year for Soorasamharam. The huge Sooran here is believed to be the largest in the world.

There is a Government Higher Secondary School in the village.  Marungoor, Ramanathichan Puthoor and Rajavoor are the neighboring villages.

There is a famous Restaurant Indien Hermitage in Ramanathichan puthoor.
