Kanyakumari - Sunrise 5

Kanyakumari - Sunrise 4

Kanyakumari - Sunrise 3

Kanyakumari - Sunrise 2

Kanyakumari - Sunrise 1

Watching sun rise at Kanyakumari is such a wonderful experience that can not be explained in words. We may not see a clear sun rise or sun set all days of the year due to weather change and cloudy conditions. May be 80 or 90 days we can see a clear sun rise or sun set.

In the early morning your dark surrounding becomes brighter, the electric lights getting switched off. The dark space becoming reddish -like a painting. Then there is richness everywhere - the golden color - golden rays of sun beaming even before the sun is heading out. The beauty of the sun coming out of the sea water, What an amazing experience!!! happening in minutes.
Come to kanyakumari and experience this at least once.

Thanks, Dr. Francis Roy...

Kanyakumari

Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip of India. It is beleived that the first man in earth lived in this land several million years ago. It was called as Kumari kandam or Lemuria continent then. During a violent geologic catastrophe the entire island was submerged under the water.

Kanyakumari takes its name from the Kumari Amman or Kanyakumari Temple here.
Triveni Sangamam - It is the place where the three water bodies - Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian sea meeting. We can see Triveni sangamam here.

Sun Rise and Sun Set - It is one of the two places in the world where we can see sun rise and sun set from the same place throughout the year.

Vivekananda Rock - The memorial stands on one of two rocks located about 500 meters off mainland. It was built in 1970 by the Vivekananda Rock Memorial Committee in honour of the visit of the great spiritual teacher Swami Vivekananda to Shripada Parai during the month of December 1892 for deep meditation and enlightenment. He swam to this rock and meditated about the past, present and future of India. It is said that he attained enlightenment on the rock, and henceforth became a reformer and philosopher

The combined height of the statue and pedestal is 133 feet (40.5 m), denoting the 133 chapters in the Thirukkural. It has a total weight of 7000 tons.

Gandhi Mandapam - The Gandhi Memorial has been built on the spot where the urn containing the Mahatma's ashes was kept for public viewing before immersion. Resembling central Indian Hindu temples in form, the memorial was designed in such a way that on Mahatma Gandhi's birthday, 2 October, the first rays of the sun fall on the exact place where his ashes were kept.
